Blox Amsterdam: A Digital Traveler Experience

Blox Amsterdam: A Digital Traveler Experience

May 6, 2026

In a world where physical boundaries are becoming less important, there is a growing need to rethink how we experience travel. My own experiences as a traveler have shown me that traveling is more than simply moving from one place to another. It is a way of discovering new perspectives and connecting with different cultures. Although rising costs and global limitations make travel more difficult, the desire to explore remains.

Blox Amsterdam is an experimental project that reimagines Amsterdam's unique architecture, humor, and cultural identity as a stylized digital city. Developed in Unity and published on Spatial.io, the project was designed to turn visitors from passive observers into "digital travelers" through an interactive experience.

Information boards, riddles, achievements, and environmental storytelling were designed to encourage curiosity and exploration rather than simply guiding users along a fixed route. Instead of creating a digital copy of the city, my goal was to capture its cultural atmosphere through interactive design.

After Spatial.io discontinued its service, the project is no longer accessible. However, it remains one of the key projects that shaped my work in digital tourism, interactive storytelling, and virtual environment design. The images on this page are screenshots taken during the development process.

I hope to rebuild Blox Amsterdam on a new platform in the future with richer interactions and expanded features. My long-term goal is not simply to recreate physical places in digital form, but to design meaningful travel experiences that inspire curiosity, deepen cultural engagement, and remain accessible to everyone.
